Scott Seskind / Collected WorksMy name is Scott Seskind. I was born on September 29th, 1959, and grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles. I went to several colleges in California and finally graduated from UCLA I have traveled across the United States a few times and have lived in Vermont and Colorado for about six months each. I went to Nepal (between India and China) for six weeks with the Peace Corps but came home early because I didn't like the program I was in. I come from a family of Eastern European Jews. I've worked mostly in public schools and convalescent hospitals although I used to sell street atlases to make money. As of today (April 23, 1985) my girlfriend is three months pregnant and we're planning to move back to Boulder Colorado when this record is finished. I recorded these songs on a four-track cassette deck. My friend Chris Hickey sang on 'I Wonder' and 'Here I Am.' He also played bass and scissors on 'I Wonder.'

Scott Seskind, 1985

These songs were digitized off a record I made in 1985 and a cassette I made in 1991. I haven't put out any other songs but I have written some. When I wrote these songs I hadn't heard of emo or loner psych and I think I had a stronger urge to express myself than I do now. At seskind.com you can hear songs and see some photos I took and a trailer for a documentary I started.

When my record came out my wife was pregnant with my son and he turns 24 in a few weeks. My daughter just started high school and yesterday was my twenty-third anniversary. All these years I've been working with people who have been diagnosed with mental illness; now I'm working in a nursing home. I hope you still like these songs.

Check out nice interviews with Scott at My Crazy Music Blog and Short and Sweet NYC.

"Out on Yoga Records, one of our favorite reissue imprints, Scott Seskind’s Selected Works delves into the canon of this essentially unknown folk singer (and photographer). Seskind plays gentle bedroom folk of the highest order: soft-spoken, melodic, and often finger-picked. Devoid of frills, Selected Works conveys true honesty and feeling and longing. Timeless." -- Other Music Digital (<== click to hear and purchase)
