JD Emmanuel and Yoga Records go way back to 2005, when I found 100s of JD's records in the Dallas Half-Price Books and Music priced at 99 cents each. I blinked and only bought 50. I put one on ebay and John Olsen of Wolf Eyes fame was the winner. A month or two later he mentioned Wizards as his "favorite electronic private press record" in his email newsletter and the rest of the records sold out two days later.

Since then JD has emerged as one of the ultimate dudes of the new and improved new age canon. He's even playing shows again for the first time in 25 years -- and hasn't missed a step.

JD has also been a crucial help in advising on and transferring, restoring, and mastering various Yoga Records releases. He kept much of his original studio dating back to the early 80s, and continues to add components over time, but the emphasis has always been on analog sound and a no-nonsense approach to it. If you have a label looking for these kinds of services, JD is highly recommended.

I'm excited to report that JD recently unearthed his unused vintage factory cassette J-cards and tape labels, and has begun producing on-demand copies of his amazing three mass-marketed (ha) cassettes Rain Forest Music (1981), Wizards (1982), and Ancient Minimal Meditations (1985). (Good luck finding copies of Sound Paintings (1980) and Visions Of Life (1981).) These tapes sound great and they're indistinguishable from the originals! You can pick them up at Mimamoglu or directly from JD via the links below. I really can't recommend these more highly...

Note: The Rain Forest Music cover is by Mollie Kahn, created specifically for the LP in 1981. All the other album covers come from photographs by JD, an accomplished photographer who specializes in sunrises, sunsets and other elemental portraits of nature.
